The Ice Won

Yesterday on this show, I promised you a full recap and breakdown of Solar Bears–Everblades. Here is the breakdown instead: there was no game. The ice at the Kia Center saw to that.

Wednesday night’s game — ECHL Game No. 55, the Florida Everblades at the Orlando Solar Bears, 7:00 PM at the Kia Center — was postponed due to ice conditions, the team announced. No makeup date has been set. It would have been the third of fifteen meetings between the two Florida rivals this season, and the building was ready for a measuring-stick game. The stick never got picked up.

What Ticket Holders Need to Know

Tickets dated October 28 will be honored on the new game date, whenever it is announced. Refunds and exchanges will be honored as well. If you parked in the ThreatLocker Garage, keep your receipt — the team says additional parking information is coming. Questions go to the club at clientservices@orlandosolarbearshockey.com; Ticketmaster buyers should contact Ticketmaster directly at (800) 653-8000.

The Measuring Stick That Melted

Florida arrived at 4–0–0–0, opening a six-game road trip and chasing the franchise’s first 5–0 start since 2020–21 — with the best defense in the ECHL (four goals allowed in four games), 17 goals scored (fourth in the league), and a league-best 19.50 shots against per game. Orlando arrived at 0–3–0–0 with five goals in three games, two of them on the power play. That mismatch is exactly why the game mattered out of proportion to late October: it was the test that would tell everyone what this Bears team is. The test is postponed. The questions are not.

Where the Bears Stand

The standings are blunt: 0–3–0–0, no points, seventh in the South Division, with Florida and South Carolina perfect on top. The last outing was Saturday at South Carolina, a 5–3 loss in which the Stingrays’ power play went 4-for-6 — Connor Eddy, Connor Kurth and Colton Kammerer scored for Orlando, Kammerer’s being his first professional goal. Aaron Luchuk leads the team with four points (one goal, three assists) and owns the season’s first multi-point game. Brendan Harris sits on 199 career ECHL points, one shy of a milestone that deserves a home crowd.

Five goals in three games is the whole story so far. It is not an effort problem, and the goaltending has kept them in games. It is a finishing problem — the same one this desk flagged in the Week One breakdown — and it is the only problem that matters until it moves.

Not the First Time the Ice Won in This Building

If Wednesday felt familiar, it is because it is. On December 17, 2023, in the same building against the same opponent, a power outage left the ice unsafe and the Everblades game was postponed — then made up the following March. Florida’s road trip simply starts a few days late, again.

Friday: Somebody Gets a First Win

The homestand rolls on: the Jacksonville Icemen come to the Kia Center on Friday, October 30, at 7:00 PM ET. Jacksonville is 0–2–1–1 — also winless, with six goals in four games of its own. Two teams, zero wins between them, one Friday night in Orlando. Somebody leaves the Kia Center with the first win of their season, and the Bears get the next chance to start theirs over. After that, Atlanta visits Tuesday, November 3, for the 10:30 AM school-day game.

And the promise from yesterday’s show stands, one game later than planned: full coverage of Friday night, right here.
